Emergency Services
The Animal Emergency and Referral Center is an urgent care facility for the emergency treatment of pets. During the daytime we also serve as a regional referral center with veterinary specialist services. A licensed veterinarian is on he premises at all times. Together with a dedicated support staff we provide critical care for pets on a 24 hour basis including holidays when your veterinarian is resting or otherwise unavailable. We are located on the east side of U.S. 1, one mile north of Midway Road, Fort Pierce, Florida. (See our location page for details.)
Why An Animal Emergency and Referral Center?
The Center is designed and built to efficiently handle injuries and illnesses that occur when your regular veterinarian is unavailable. You will be referred back to your veterinarian during normal business hours for follow-up care. The Center also provides veterinary specialist referral services. (See Specialty Services for more detail.)
Fees
This hospital is a complete emergency care facility. It requires special equipment, personnel, extended working hours, and diagnostic and treatment resources, so you can justifiably expect our fees to be comparable to other veterinary emergency hospitals. An emergency fee or consultation fee is charged to all clients. To avoid misunderstanding, the fees will be discussed prior to admitting the patient. The doctor will explain your options and /or other charges and give an estimate for diagnostic test, treatment, surgery, or other procedures. Sometimes a full evaluation of your pet may take several hours, and an accurate estimate may be delayed until then.
A
deposit is required on all cases admitted. All fees are due when your pet is released.
We do not extend credit. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express,
ATM debit card and Med Cash for your convenience. We will also accept your personal
check with proper identification. The best medical care is based on communication,
so please voice any questions you have concerning your pet's health or your services.
Release
When your pet is released from the Emergency Center you will receive an itemized receipt as well as a discharge record. You should always contact your regular veterinarian soon after release so that he/she can evaluate your pet's progress. Take a copy of the medical record to your veterinarian's office. Veterinarians referring to our specialists will receive consultation reports by mail at discharge.
Limitations
Only pets (cats, dogs, and other small animals) will be treated at the emergency center. If your pet requires further hospitalization, it must be transferred (by you) to your regular veterinarian, or your veterinarian must specifically refer the case to one of our specialist veterinarians.
